Butterflies on Chicory

One of the subtleties that I enjoy about biking in the countryside in the summertime is when I come across a ditch that has been spared the mower. It is a small thing, but I love how the taller grass sways in the wind and how it is often kept company by other plants and insects. In the area that I live, chicory can often be found growing along these quiet non-mowed roadsides. And as is the case in the photograph below, butterflies and other insects have a new place to call home and show their color. So thank you to the farmer who delayed mowing this particular ditch and for those who slow down on their journeys and take in the subtle moments.
