Winter Gate

I wasn't sure if my 2 wheel drive truck was going to make it through the unplowed roads but I finally was able to crunch up to the the gate of a local preservation area. I parked and grabbed my gear (camera, tripod, and snowshoes (probably a little too much, but hey, you don't get to you use them much in Illinois)) and stepped into the snowy gray day. Flakes flying and a nice chill in the air, my senses and awareness perked up. I hadn't even walked two feet and I already was noticing the gate and prairie grass standing out against the monochrome atmosphere. I thought this was the perfect photograph to enter my first book, Local Sanctuary.
