Parkland

A good portion of the works in Local Sanctuary have been desaturated to have a color patch of life in a flower or in brilliant leaves. I wanted this piece to be much more subtle though. It might now be obvious at first, but the posts and rails have been left in their quiet hues, blending in with the grayscale of the photograph and being a gentle guidepost for wanderer. I think that the subtlety of the fence reflects the preserve in general: a quiet place that is often overlooked but whose importance is of a greater magnitude than we often understand. What do you think? How important are these quiet lands to you? I would love to hear your response.

Parkland is the 74th creation in Local Sanctuary.

  1. Given that we are surrounded by noise constantly, we have lost the ability to appreciate the reconnection with our deeper selves in the rush and babble of daily life. Without quiet spaces, there will be no reconnection, and a loss of psychological power and contemplation.

Joseph Campbell studied how the mystique of a place transforms its visitors. These places give us solitude, reflection, and inspiration. Without them, we become mechanized, robotized and lobotomized.

    1. Well said. These places definitely allow for that reflection that comes forth in solitude and it brings about a great sense of life.
