Prairie Cone

Aside from the thistles, the prairie also contained these yellow flowers. I'm not sure exactly what they are or even if they are native or invasive, but regardless, I like the ring of flowers crowning the top.

Prairie Cone is the 64th creation in Local Sanctuary.

  1. Looks like a splendid example of mullein (Verbascum thapsis). There are many medicinal uses of this plant, but when I was a child, my father told me the leaves were used by fairies as blankets when they went to sleep. I used to wish that my mother would make me a blanket of mullein leaves, but she was more practical, and so I received a blue wool blanket instead. How disappointing!
