Winter Crossing

If you enter the Merwin Nature Preserve from the North Gate and follow the trail in, you will find this huge trunk of tree resting as the trail turns inward. I always slow down as I'm taken back by the size of this trunk. With this photograph, I'm also taken by what grows near its fallen grace. In this piece, I left the color in these thorny vines. I liked how their magenta based color crisscrossed against the stark absence of color that I thought characterized winter. Their color was a pleasant delight, even though their thorns would occasionally snag my clothes.
